ONLINE SECURITY

You're sure to get hurt in Herzegovina,
And, in Rwanda, rue quandries of sorrow.
In Chernobyl,  you'll get a glowing patina,
And they kill men on Kilamanjaro.

You won't get a bang out of Bangladesh,
And, in Ouagadougou, your dinner is dog.
There's no merry train out to cold Marrakech,
And Timbuktu bucks through a bog.

They do more than tango in wild Pango Pango,
And, in Borneo, pygmies burn you.
So, you won't find me--deranged in Durango,
Just Online in calm Kalamazoo.

CHRISTIANITY: ART--NOT PROPAGANDA

BLOG: 7/6/09 /  CHRISTIANITY IS ART

If I were to be privileged to be a 'missionary' to the Netherlands (before the imams and mullahs totally entrenched themselves and ruined the culture) I'd be there for absolutely one reason only--to study Art in the Rijk and Van Gogh Museums..!!

American Art has always had to play'catch up' to the great Art of the Netherlands and Europe--period.  Why Paris--except studying at the Louvre..?

The same would be true regarding a 'mission' to Spain--It would b e to study at The Prado Museum in Madrid.  A gal friend of mine did her Ph.D. in Art there.

And if I were privileged to be a 'missionary' to Brazil...it would be for one thing only--to study the wonderful music of Antonio Carlos Jobim and other fantastic Brazilian musicians... American music has never begun to match that superior excellence. (No other reason to go there...!  Forget the idiocy of Soccer..!!)

Nobody in the world needs to come to America--except  perhaps to study jazz--or the Art of the Novel--for a year.  (Forget the idiocy of Golf, Football--and especially trivia like MTV...!)

I've known 'missionaries' to (civilized) European and South American countries, who returned after many years--never having immersed themselves in
the Art, Literature, Music of the particular country.  What great thing were they there to share?  When I tell them that Christianity is Art not Propaganda...they give me a blank ('duh') stare...boring bobble heads.

The only authentic missionary is a 'visiting artist' coming to study the Fine Art of that country.  Only in that milieu can the Gospel be shared effectively.

I know this stuff 'pops the evangelastic'...ha..!

Transfigurational Moments

kairos: (Greek: 'divine moment')
pleroo: (Greek: fullness--as in 'fullness of time')

There is a transfigurational moment, a window of inspiration, gestalt, aha! insight, play of values—lights, shadows--illuminating the perfect composition out of the most mundane, banal, objects.  A center of interest emerges and holds your eye: a wormhole to inner space. You grab your conte crayon, pastel chalk, or colored pencil and dash off a thumbnail sketch before the light moves on.  Fullness of time.  An upper room.  A gathering.  A breeze.  Tongues of fire.  Anointing.  The Logos. Windows of heaven opening.  Emmaus Road and touching a scar--quickly slipping away.  Kingdom Time.  Kairos.  Redemptive lift from trivial to profound, vulgar to beautiful, profane to sacred opens your eyes to see what others cannot, opens your ears to hear what others cannot.  In your studio you take out the rough fragment and on the drawing board form a masterpiece, an etude, painting, screenplay--a sculpture in marble.

St.Arbucks Coffeeshop Cartoonist.  KDS (Koinonia Deprivation Syndrome) is ubiquitous.  Sadly, it can be most evident in families (nuclear and extended) at seasonal times.  The classic Lennon-McCartney tune, 'Eleanor Rigby' ("...Ah, look at all the lonely people...") is also most evident on the faces of holiday church attendees who crowd into 'sanctuaries' under the illusion that they're going to find sincere love (Romans 12:9), empathy, rapport, and honest fellowship--only to be 'bombasted' with artificially-crafted, giant-screened, religious propaganda onstage.  (As always, '...there is no room in the Inn'.)

Dark Roast: TGI-Finished..!  If you find yourself relieved (for at least another glorious year) that you don't have to bear with narcissistic, (personality-disordered) in-laws listening to them boast about all the awards they've received (sadly, from toadies and bootlickers) for pharisaically giving their bleeding-heart alms in public, and doing their rhetorical ('sackcloth-n-ashes') prayers on street corners--you've saying some thank-god-it's-overs on your televangelist rosary..!

The Whole Fam Damily. If your 'fambly' get-togethers leave you with the self-loathing sycophancy and insincere flattery evokes in you, remember the comfort and liberation of the Holy Spirit is calling you to, 'Come out from among them,' and be spiritually liberated. (I tell folks in counseling, "Quit pretending you enjoy faux fellowship with the character-flawed and their fawning apple-polishers--or you'll end up turning your frustration and anger against yourself.")

The Left Foot of Fellowship.  I told a seminar audience in Carson City, Nevada years ago,"Why be afflicted with narcissistically-disordered 'outlaws' at seasonal gatherings or even 'narcissistic-contract' churches where 'your role' is to sheeple-clap and toss lotsa sheeple-money in the offering plate--and bear with some grinning (humor, insight, wisdom and judgment-impaired) idiot up on stage making a fool of himself?" (I was never invited back--heh-heh...and thank God.)

Nourishing vs. Toxic.  I know, of course, most folks (ruled by social and 'belonging-need' anxiousness) won't listen to therapeutic advice.  Sadly, they keep forgetting, 'There is no fellowship between Light and Darkness', between nourishing and toxic, between the charming sociopath and the sincere lover. Thus, 'nice folk' in America's Culture of Narcissism often live lives of quiet desperation....'in the midst of a wicked and perverse (2 Timothy 3) generation'.

The St.Arbucks Coffeeshop Cartoonist looks for nice folks with whom to enjoy coffee shop fellowship--sincere empathy, good rapport, and plenty of good satirical laughs. (Please, no toadies, pharisees, politicians...or sociopaths...heh-heh.)

CREATIO EX NIHILONON-DERIVATIVE FINE ARTISTRY
Fellowship of Artists, Writers, Playwrights & Poets

Raison d'Etre.  Mutual encouragement of persons gifted in the fine arts to produce original work in each one's area of expression and interpretation of life.

Philosophy.  An artist must function 'monogystically' in the sense that s/he must be a self-starter and self-motivator.  However, there is a synergistic aspect when artists honing their craft exchange inspiration, encouragement, and share creative stories with each other 'as iron sharpens iron'.
